AJLII Editorial Board Minimum Requirements

Criteria Minimum Requirement Rationale
Qualifications PhD in Library and Information Science (LIS) or a related field. A Master’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience may also be accepted. Ensures scholarly depth and academic credibility for a continental journal.
Work Experience Minimum 7 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Academic libraries
- Research institutions
- Editorial work
- Education
- Library consortia
- Other information-related fields
Guarantees practical understanding of pan-African library and information ecosystems.
Research Experience Minimum 10 peer-reviewed publications in LIS or higher education. Validates research leadership and critical assessment skills.
Subject Specialization Demonstrated expertise in at least one core area:
- Consortia management
- Digital innovation
- Open Access policy
- Indigenous knowledge systems
Aligns with the journal’s pan-African thematic pillars.
Publication Experience Prior experience as:
- Author in Scopus- or DOAJ-indexed journals
- Peer reviewer
Ensures familiarity with international publishing standards.
Editorial Experience Minimum 2 years on an editorial board (preferred) or equivalent experience as a guest editor. Critical for managing multi-country submissions and peer review processes.
Tenure / Service 4-year term, non-renewable. Balances continuity with fresh perspectives across regions.
